Event Details

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for this event!

As part of an ongoing partnership with Sunset magazine and after great support from the Sunset Celebration volunteers, they have asked Children’s Health Council to provide approximately 150 volunteers to help with the launch of an exciting new wine competition in exchange for a generous donation. Details about the event are available at: http://tinyurl.com/d5kukq4.

We are looking for motivated volunteers for the backroom. This is your opportunity to be a founding member of the Sunset Backroom Team. If you are interested in wine, want to learn more about it, love volunteering and would like to get up close and personal  with some of the most respected and talented palates in the United States, this will be the experience for you. Wine knowledge is desirable but not required. A willingness to volunteer and follow detailed direction is the most important attribute of a backroom volunteer! You are encouraged to sign up for multiple shifts (1-4 full day shifts) if you are available!

Volunteers will be required to attend a volunteer seminar prior to the event.Volunteers will be served continental breakfast and lunch each day, have the opportunity to taste wines from some of the most prestigious wineries in the US and there is a good chance you could receive gifts of wine at the end of the competition. Must be 17 years of age to participate.

Activities:

Judging will take place Monday and Tuesday, July 9 & 10

Each panel of judges will have two to three volunteers assigned to bring coded glasses of wine to be evaluated. One volunteer will work at the judges table to facilitate the judging process and serve as a liaison between the judges and the backroom volunteers.

Volunteers working in the backroom will open bottles, pour wines from coded bottles into glasses with the same code and deliver those wines, usually in groups of up to ten wines per flight. As the judges evaluate a flight of wines, the backroom volunteers will pour the next flight of wines.

Backroom set up will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 7 & 8

Volunteers will move wines from the onsite warehouse to each panel's assigned set of tables, organize wines by category in tasting order, compare each wine with the report to ensure the bottle matches the information on the report, work with organizers to resolve discrepancies, attach coded glass labels to dollies that will be placed on each judges' glass and/or polish glasses.

We feel very lucky to have received a great response from the community and have fulfilled our volunteer need for this event.
